Dr. Vidyadhara S is Chairman, Head of the Department & Senior Consultant Robotic Minimally invasive Spine Surgeon (Paediatric and Adult) working for Manipal Hospital, Bangalore since Jan 2008. He completed MS and DNB at KMC Manipal in 2002, both winning Gold Medals. He then pursued his career in spine surgery by completing a 2-year structured fellowship of the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi (FNB-Spine Surgery) at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore. He further went on to do the prestigious clinical fellowship in spinal deformity surgery at Queen Mary Hospital and Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital, Hong Kong. He has visited most of the centres of excellence in spine surgery in Germany, USA, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore. In 2012, he was honoured to be one among the three spine surgeons from across the world winning the prestigious SRS Traveling Fellowship to visit the 25 best centres for Spine Surgery in the USA. He has been an Adjunct Visiting Professor of Manipal University and is course Director for FNB Spine surgery fellowship programme.He has practiced spine surgery solely for over a decade and has performed more than 12,900 spinal surgeries independently successfully till Dec 2022. He had a very successful academic career winning more than 30 medals and awards at national and international levels. He has also authored more than 35 international publications in indexed journals with citations of over 1300. He has been serving in the editorial board of six international indexed journals and also in the reviewer board of numerous journals. In 2006, he has won the ISCA Young Scientist Award from the then President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. In 2010, he won ISSLS Best Research Award (Basic Science) for his research work on disc degeneration. He is the fifth Indian Spine Surgeon and first & only one from Karnataka to have been awarded the active membership of Scoliosis Research Society, USA (in 2008) till date. He has served as Chairman of Communication Committee of Scoliosis Research Society and Editor of SRS News Letter during 2017-20 (first one to be from India).
